F.C. Barcelona’s New Shirt Sponsor Linked to Controversial Muslim Cleric

By means of all the things he did to them ” even though they exaggerated this issue ” he managed to put them in their place. This was divine punishment for them. Former Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff said the new deal was “sullying the jersey.” In response, Barcelona president Sandro Rosell said:

We concluded that it was better that the payroll get paid rather than not. This is to plug holes.

. Allah willing, the next time will be at the hand of the believers …The same year, also on Al-Jazeera, he called for Allah to kill all Jews:

Oh Allah, take this oppressive, Jewish, Zionist band of people. The last punishment was carried out by Hitler. In 2009, al-Qaradawi said on Al-Jazeera TV:

Throughout history, Allah has imposed upon the [Jews] people who would punish them for their corruption. They do not recognise or follow our traditions and customs, so we should not follow theirs,” Mr Qaradawi said, echoing Rudyard Kipling, the British author.Related:Images by Wikimedia Commons, CC; and BigSoccer. Instead, Barca donated its shirtfront to Unicef, giving the team a certain ethical nobility that others lacked. F.C. The economy was worse than what we thought and what they told us.But it is the Qatar Foundation’s links to al-Qaradawi that will likely draw protests in the long run. Barcelona’s staggering $225 million shirt sponsorship from the Qatar Foundation will likely become a lightning rod of controversy due to the foundation’s association with Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, a Muslim cleric who has justified suicide bombings and called for Allah to kill all Jews, “down to the very last one.”

The deal is the biggest shirt sponsorship in all of soccer. All that is now out of the window as the club sways under a gross debt load of 442 million. Despite all that, the Qatar Foundation — which generally supports moderate Islam and links with the West — opened an “Al-Qaradawi Centre for Islamic Moderation and Renewal” in September 2009.

2010 CBS Interactive Inc.. The intent of the center is to fight extremism, but that seems unlikely to happen given al-Qaradawi’s statement to the Financial Times this month that he is no longer interested in obeying the law in the West:

“I was for the possibility of bridging the gap between the east and the west but recently I have changed my mind on this issue, especially since the west wants to impose its values and traditions on us,” Mr Qaradawi told his congregation at Doha’s Omar bin Al Khattab Mosque in a televised sermon in October.”West is west and east is east. All Rights Reserved. Oh Allah, do not spare a single one of them. It is worth 30 million (25 million) per season for five years, for a total of 165 million, vaulting the club over recent deals by Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Liverpool F.C., which were all record-setters themselves.

The deal initially caused consternation amongst the club’s fans because, unlike all other top-flight clubs, it had never before taken a shirt sponsor

UEFA Champions League Winners List and Short History

2 teams qualify from each group through to the knockout stage of the Champions League. Both Valencia and Stade Reims have reached the Champions League final twice but lost on both occasions. It started out as a straight forward knockout football competition in 1955, in which only the club champions of each European country could enter.

In its modern form the Champions League has 3 stages; First there is the qualification stage for the clubs who do not qualify automatically, then when the main competition begins there is a group stage consisting of 8 groups of 4 teams. In its current form the Champions League also allows more than national champions to enter with countries such as England and Spain having 4 teams qualify for the competition.

Champions League Prize Money and TV Ratings

The European cup is a highly lucrative competiton for football clubs in the modern era with Champions League prize money reaching up to EUR36.4 million for a championship winning campaign. Only 12 teams have managed to win the competition more than once and the record for most wins is held by Real Madrid with a tally of 9. What’s more, participating clubs also receive TV revenue on top of prize money which again is highly lucrative considering that the Champions League final is the most watched sporting event in the world with around 100 million global viewers. Given all this it is no surprise that the Champions League is considered the biggest and best club football competition in the world.

Champions League Winners List

Since the Champions League competition began in 1955 there have been 21 different clubs who have lifted the trophy. However, after Inter Milan and Bayern Munich defied bookies and reached the final last year anything could happen is this year’s Champions League!

Champions League MedalWhat is now known as the UEFA Champions League began life as the European Champions Club Cup and did not change its name to the Champions League until 1992. In terms of country wins the Champions League has been held the most in Italy, Spain and England with 12 titles for Spain and Italy and 11 titles for England.

The current Champions League champions are Inter Milan but the 2010/2011 competition is already underway and so it will not be long until there is a new title added to this list. Even if a club lost every match in the group stage of the Champions League they would still walk away with EUR3.3 million.. As ever Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid have been ranked as favourites for the competition. Here is a list of all the Champions League winners:

Football Team – Times Won – Years WonReal Madrid – 9 titles – 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1966, 1998, 2000, 2002AC Milan – 7 titles – 1963, 1969, 1989, 1990, 1994, 2003, 2007Liverpool FC – 5 titles – 1977, 1978, 1981, 1984, 2005Bayern Munich – 4 titles – 1974, 1975, 1976, 2001Ajax – 4 titles – 1971, 1972, 1973, 1995Barcelona – 3 titles – 1992, 2006, 2009Inter Milan – 3 titles – 1964, 1965, 2010Manchester United – 3 titles – 1968, 1999, 2008Benfica – 2 titles – 1961, 1962Juventus – 2 titles – 1985, 1996Nottingham Forest – 2 titles – 1979, 1980Porto – 2 titles – 1987, 2004Celtic – 1 title – 1967Hamburg – 1 title – 1983Steaua Bucuresti – 1 title – 1986Marseille – 1 title – 1993Feyenoord – 1 title – 1970Aston Villa – 1 title – 1982PSV Eindhoven – 1 title – 1988Red Star Belgrade – 1 title – 1991Borussia Dortmund – 1 title – 1997It can be seen that Real Madrid and AC Milan have been most prolific in the Champions League throughout history, but in the modern era Barcelona have dominated with 3 wins in the last 18 years

Bundesliga starts with Bayern Munich as big favorite

In a poll conducted by Kicker magazine, 16 of 18 Bundesliga coaches saw Bayern as champion again, with two undecided.

Bayern finished last season 10 points ahead of Wolfsburg, which again is likely to be the nearest challenger. His successor is Thomas Tuchel, was one of the most sought-after coaches following a successful stint in Mainz, his only Bundesliga job.

Unsettled striker Ciro Immobile has been loaned away, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be a speedy partner for Marco Reus, if the latter can shake off injuries.

Darmstadt returns to the Bundesliga after 33 years and will be an unknown quantity. With Arturo Vidal in its midfield, Bayern will become more robust, while the speed of winger Douglas Costa could be a major asset. Guardiola’s team has bolstered its already loaded squad and few expect anything but another title. Not to mention that Hamburg lost 8-0 the last time it visited Munich.

Bayern captain Philipp Lahm thinks his team is unstoppable. Mario Goetze is reportedly not entirely happy with his limited role but he is likely to stay.

Wolfsburg enjoyed its best season since its surprise run to the 2009 title. De Bruyne was voted Bundesliga’s top player last season but has been linked with a move to English Premier League side Manchester City. Borussia Dortmund could return to the group of pursuers again after struggling last season.

The season kicks off Friday in Munich, when Bayern hosts Hamburger SV, a team that barely escaped relegation in a playoff and that got eliminated from the German Cup by fourth-tier Jena last weekend. It beat Bayern 4-1 and finished second, while lifting the German Cup. 2 club, especially if midfielder Kevin de Bruyne stays. Guardiola is in the final season of his three-year deal and raised eyebrows recently by saying that he wasn’t fully convinced of being the ”right man” in charge and that three years at a club are a ”long time.” Bayern is keen to keep Guardiola but director Matthias Sammer has said the club would not fall apart if the coach leaves.

Guardiola won the domestic double in his first season and the Bundesliga title last season, while his team was eliminated in the semifinals of the Champions League both seasons.

Bayern has added muscle and speed to its squad. Wolfsburg has brought in German striker Max Kruse.

Wolfsburg angered Bayern again by lifting the domestic Super Cup on penalties two weeks ago.

Dortmund has turned a new page with the departure of seven-year coach Jurgen Klopp. ”If the team is hungry and willing, and has enough energy, there can be no other German champion,” he said ahead of the opening match.

Here are some things to know about the upcoming season:

Coach Pep Guardiola has left fans and Bayern officials second-guessing about his future. It has progressed from third to first division in successive seasons but its limited budget and a squad of castoffs from other clubs make Darmstadt the top candidate for relegation.

Ingolstadt also will be hard-pressed to remain in the Bundesliga longer than a season.

And goal-line technology is also making its debut.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) Bayern Munich kicks off the Bundesliga season in the familiar role of favorite for a historic fourth consecutive title despite questions hanging over the future of coach Pep Guardiola.

No Bundesliga team has won four straight titles and if any team can do it, it’s the current Bayern side. Franck Ribery is still nursing an ankle season and Costa will see plenty of action, at least at the start of the season.

The two should compensate for the departure of Bastian Schweinsteiger for Manchester United. Sponsored by Germany’s biggest car maker, Wolfsburg has been able to assemble a strong squad and is likely to remain the No

Chelsea F.C. Star Pimped Via Spam: “Want John Terry to Endorse Your Brand?”

2009 CBS Interactive Inc.. Terry himself already endorses Umbro sportswear, Pro Evolution Soccer, Samsung, Nationwide and King of Shaves.

Last Updated Nov 30, 2009 3:05 PM EST

Chelsea F.C.’s John Terry has distanced himself (but not completely disavowed) an embarrassing email from Riviera Entertainment, his marketing management company, which pimps him to potential sponsors — any sponsors.

“John Terry is available to create effective brand awareness and endorse products and services globally.”

Terry put out this statement after the UK press pilloried the email for whoring Terry out like street meat:”An email inviting commercial endorsements for me has been published,” he said. I have nothing further to say on the matter.”Notice that Terry does not say he is severing his ties with the company, nor does he deny that he is looking to hook up with advertisers.

Many footballers have advertising contacts. The email arrived with the subject header: “Want John Terry to endorse your brand?” (Click to enlarge image.)

It continued:

“The Fifa 2010 World Cup Finals in South Africa is fast approaching!”

“With this in mind Riviera Entertainment is identifying suitable commercial endorsement opportunities for its client John Terry for the period building up to the finals and beyond.

The misstep here is that Riviera tried to sell Terry’s services via spam, as if he were a commodity, rather than quietly through a series of pitches and lunch meetings.. UEFA Champions League Group C PSV Eindhoven 0:0 Liverpool by Steven Cronin

The squad rotation policy of manager Rafa Benitez has raised one or two eyebrows of late, many fans questioning whether the Spaniard had lost the plot.

Chief culprit was Jamie Pennant, the two at times seemingly on completely different wavelengths.

Steven Gerrard came within a whisker of scoring the crucial winning goal for Liverpool in this opening Champions League group stage clash.

It was the closest the Reds got to breaking a PSV Eindhoven defensive line that held Liverpool at bay for much of the match.

That aside, the Liverpool defence coped well with most of what PSV could throw at them, though in truth neither side could create any real clear cut openings.

The dangerous Kone was allowed to run from deep in his own half virtually unopposed into the Liverpool penalty area before unleashing a ferocious shot that cannoned back off the crossbar.

Liverpool began the match with their two most influential midfielders in Gerrard and Alonso both on the bench, a bizarre decision considering the importance of getting off to a solid start in this competition.

Craig Bellamy looked Liverpools most dangerous player, though despite some clever runs the service to the front man was often wayward.

The Liverpool skipper latched onto a bouncing ball at the corner of the penalty area, unleashing a rasping volley that eluded the goalkeeper but crashed back off the inside of the far post.

But it was the sight of Gerrard sat on the substitutes bench that gave the biggest surprise of the night.

In defence of Benitez, with Premiership games against Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham coming up, maybe he feels the need to protect Liverpools engine room.

PSV started the game well, a bad omen considering their manager Ronald Koeman was in charge of the Benfica side who sent Liverpool crashing out of last seasons tournament.

© Thomson Reuters 2015 All rights reserved.

New deal for Bamford | News | Official Site

My dream has always been to be part of this club for the long term.

Bamford, who scored 19 times for Middlesbrough on his way to being voted Championship Player of the Year last season, signed for Chelsea in early 2012.
