A VIEW FROM THE GALLOWGATE.

If this had been a film, it wouldn’t even have gone to DVD, but gone straight to ITV 5 after the ‘Never the twain’ 1983 Xmas special.

CRYSTAL Palace was a carbon copy of Stoke. We like John Barrowman, he’s safe and undemanding.

My sympathies to the masochists who travelled down. A dubious lead and a failure to hang on, the result was the most nailed on of the night.

It will paint a picture of a club that doesn’t resemble the one you’ve been watching recently, and have little faith of watching in the future.

In a week or two the renewal packs for the 10-year deal tickets will arrive.

After shaking out the adverts for PS5 off train fares to Gdansk, and 20% off chocolates from a shop you’ve never heard of, there will be the begging letter.

It will try to convince you that you’re paying for the Rolling Stones, when what we’re getting is Showaddywaddy.

John Carver asserted that he ‘bravely’ played two strikers on Wednesday; it was Crystal Palace away mate, not Barcelona.

Whilst other more progressive clubs are putting on their glad rags for a night on the town, we’re putting on our slippers and settling down for a rare John Barrowman programme.

As ever, we have to wait, and along with the hope, that’s what gets you.

Stop Press! The manager of my local ‘TatWorld’ has quit, Tim Sherwood has issued a statement ruling himself out, he’s opted for a different cut-price basket case.

Have a little test with yourself, every time you see the word ’ambition’ in the letter, send a quid to your favourite charity.

Why do we renew, then? Bloody-mindedness? The fear that we’ll somehow win something the first time you don’t renew? Who knows, we just do, maybe not in the numbers of yore, but the feeling never wanes.

The club is slipping into torpor, crowd engagement is minimal and the management-speak being handed down by the bean counters is hardly raising adrenalin levels.

This will thank you profusely for standing shoulder-toshoulder as we battled the might of West Brom and Swansea City in mid table.

Maybe the club are going to spring a surprise with the new coach, it could be anyone from Thomas Tuchel to Thomas the Tank Engine.

BBC Sport – History of the World Transfer Record.

Of the top 10 most expensive transfers of all time, nine of the players are strikers or attacking midfielders. Surprisingly only two of the top 10 involve football clubs from the English Premier League, which is arguably the richest league in the world.Highest Ever Football Transfer Fees

Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Real Madrid from Manchester United is by far the most expensive of all time. This remained the most expensive transfer of all time for 8 years until the summer of 2009 when this massive transfer record was broken 3 times in quick succession.

As European football clubs started receiving more TV rights money, prize money and clubs such as Man City gained large foreign investment, players wages and transfer fees sky rocketed. Increasingly clubs would spend 20 million or more on players that a few years ago would have cost less than 10 million.

Most Expensive Football Transfers of all Time

This transfer frenzy came to a peak in 2009 when Real Madrid spent a fortune on Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo and AC Milan star Kaka. Buffon’s transfer from Parma to Juventus was and still the most expensive transfer fee ever for a goal keeper or a defensive positioned footballer.

2010 Football Transfers

Cristiano Ronaldo’s 80 million transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2009 remains the largest of all time, but with Manchester City having already spent 100 million in 2010 transfer period this record may not last long. The Premier League club have already been said to have once offered AC Milan 90 million for Kaka and so this massive transfer fee record may well be broken in the next transfer period.

KakaIn 2001 Zinedine Zidane moved from the Italian Seria A club Juventus to the Spanish giants Real Madrid for an incredible 45 million (75 million)

Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund 2015 live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch online

Two familiar teams with a few new faces make this one a must watch. Costing just 2.5 million, he’s started every Bundesliga match so far, and appears to be just the man Tuchel needed to be the linchpin of his 4-1-4-1 formation.

For the first time in over a year, Dortmund are virtually full strength at the back. This has been a big reason for their early league success, especially compared to last season, but the 2-2 draw against Darmstadt showed they can still be exposed. It’s easier said than done, especially with players like David Alaba and Philipp Lahm pushing forward to make it a crowded area. He missed the most recent match.

Borussia Dortmund injuries and suspensions

Der Klassiker is back, and it matters again.

Despite Bayern Munich’s recent Bundesliga dominance and last year’s disastrous campaign for Borussia Dortmund, die Schwarzgelben (literally black-yellows) have only been beaten once by the Bavarians in the last seven league meetings.

Not too much else has changed. ET, 5:30 p.m. That means lkay Gndoan and Julian Weigl will have their work cut out for them, and will need help from wingers Marco Reus and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to tuck in and provide an outlet in efforts to relieve the pressure.

Julian Weigl was a transfer that went under the radar, as the 20-year-old defensive midfielder swapped Munich – 1860 Munich, that is – for Dortmund this summer. The Brazilian, formerly of Shakhtar Donetsk, already has five assists. Bayern’s defence is still stingy, allowing just three goals so far, even though Pep maintains his disdain for traditional central defenders.

In the middle of the park is where the main battle will take place. Thomas Mller isn’t far behind with six. Arturo Vidal joined from Juventus to replace Bastian Schweinsteiger in the middle of midfield.

Germany’s biggest rivalry, der Klassiker, will be played on Sunday for the first time since Thomas Tuchel took over for Jrgen Klopp this summer. Out: Arjen Robben (abductor), Franck Ribery (ankle). In doubt: Holger Badstuber (thigh), Arturo Vidal (knee).Mehdi Benatia (thigh).

Pep Guardiola finally has a healthy winger in Douglas Costa. Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are still banging in goals left and right, with 10 and 9 respectively. Bayern will be hoping Vidal is fit, or else Guardiola may need to alter his formation. Bayern lead the league, having made a perfect start and winning all seven matches so far

Robben Island – Climate change threat to UNESCO sites – Pictures

Read on to see more of the UNESCO sites that could be under threat.

The study calculated the temperatures at which the 720 UNESCO World Heritage Sites would be impacted by sea level rise, concluding that 136 are in danger if global average temperatures rise to 3 degrees Celsius above pre-Industrial levels. That number is well within the range projected in the latest UN report on climate change, which projected that global average temperatures would rise by 0.3 to 4.8 degrees C by the end of the century.

Some of the world’s most prized landmarks and monuments, including the Statue of Liberty and Tower of London, could disappear before our eyes in the next 2000 years if the climate continues to change at current rates, according to a new study.

Montreal Impact reveal how ‘Drogba Legend’ banner made it from Stamford Bridge to Stade Saputo | SIDELINE

Ill pay everything, the group will take care of everything.

It worked out OK, Montali says.

But how does a banner cross the Atlantic, exactly? Marco Montali, a founding member of new Montreal Impact supporters group1642 MTL, has the answer.. We were down.

Later in the day, Montali recalls in a phone interview, Im driving in the car, and I tell my son, Why couldnt we get [the banner] here for at least one game? No harm in trying, right? Were nobody, but maybe theyll ship it to us. 8, the first day of the English Premier League season. [The response is,] ‘No way. One Impact spokesperson was so excited by the presentation, he tapped on this writers shoulder to draw his attention to it just before it began.

Excitement soon turned to panic when the banner landed in Montreal at 4 pm on the Friday before Drogba was due to make his debut too late to retrieve it until the next morning.

So youve also probably seen the big orange banner in the east stand of Stade Saputo, in the highlights, in this videoor elsewhere. Oh man. The Drogba Legend banner, the one that came straight from Stamford Bridge to Quebec.

Yeah, that worked out OK.

Dont lie: youve watched Didier Drogbas hat trick more than once, too.

Lets go back to Aug. At first, the group merely pushed for a one-game loan. 22, where Drogba played only 30 minutes in a 1-0 home loss to the Philadelphia Union. It reads: It’s on its way.

Thankfully, this was before the game on Aug. And thankfully (?), Drogba then hurt his toe, giving the group more time to arrange a proper unveiling of the banner, complete with a From London, pour le roi(for the king) message. Nothing opens on weekends. But David Johnstone, owner of the banner, was having none of it. He has assured the group that the banner can stay while Drogba is with the Impact.

The weekend over, Montali sends an email to Michael Mabee, the Impacts director of game day operations. Chelsea trained at Montreals new training center during preseason. Surely Mabee has contacts at Chelsea that he can pass over to the group?

Montali is not exactly watching the game, but as he walks by the room, the Drogba Legend banner shows up on the TV screen, live from Drogba’s old stomping grounds of Stamford Bridge.

A week later, Mabee sends the group an email. Montalis son, an Arsenal fan, is watching Chelsea draw 2-2 at home to Swansea, probably having a laugh, unaware that the Gunners would lose to West Ham at the Emirates the next day.

The Impact go all the way up to the vice president of the courier company to release the thing for us, Montali says

Starting with host side Borussia Dortmund, the German champions have had a rough start to their domestic campaign as they currently sit 12 points off the pace of Bayern Munich’s perfect opening record of eight straight victories. It is only hours before kickoff in one of the most anticipated matches of the group and it will be exciting to see what happens.

Borussia Dortmund: Roman Weidenfeller; Lukasz Piszczek, Neven Subotic, Mats Hummels, Marcel Schmelzer; Sven Bender, Sebastian Kehl; Mario Gtze, Marco Reus, Kevin Grokreutz; Robert Lewandowski

Real Madrid have struggled just as bad to get their league campaign off to a solid start, as they reside in the fourth place spot in their respected competition, just as Dortmund do in theirs, eight points back from Barcelona at the top of the table.

Predicted Starting XI’s. Jrgen Klopp’s men will have to be wary of a Spanish side that is just as frustrated with their start to their own league campaign that sees them in a similar position as their opponents.

Injuries remain a problem for Real Madrid with Alvaro Arbeloa, Marcelo and Fabio Coentrao all out at the back, while Borussia Dortmund should see the return of Mario Goetze and Marcel Schmelzer to the first team and Ilkay Guendogan to the bench.

The sides represent two of the four domestic championship winners that make up Group D of this season’s tournament in the so dubbed, “Group of Death.” This is the first of two back to back games for the clubs that is set to possibly make or break their UCL group stage and set the tone for a potential run at progression to the knockout stages.

For Dortmund the task at hand will truly be finding a way to shutdown Cristiano Rolando
